Telta Awnings - The History

Telta Awnings are a new brand to the UK market, launching in 2022 by Max Lawless and Anders Outzen.

Both creators come from the camping and caravanning industry. Max's Grandfather, Len Lawless began working in the 1970's for NR Awnings with his father, Mark Lawless, joining the company a few years later. The pair went on to create Sunnflair, UK importers for popular outdoor furniture and awnings brands. The business expanded and began to develop their own range of tents and awnings under the Sunncamp brand, becoming one of the largest suppliers of camping and caravanning equipment to the UK market and developing the first lightweight flexible fibre glass poled awnings. Max's Dad then took on his own venture - Kampa. Joining the business in 2012, Max becomes the third generation of the Lawless family in the industry. Kampa grew from strength to strength launching new innovative outdoor products, including the first inflatable caravan awning, which saw a tremendous uptake. Expanding across the globe Kampa become a huge success with sales across Europe and Australasia. In 2018 Kampa is taken over by Dometic, with Max staying on as the product developer. In 2020 Max left Dometic.

The Outzen family (Erna and Arne) started in the 1970s as the owners of a campsite and began selling second hand caravans. An increase of sales soon saw them open a caravan centre. Their son, Peter, joins the family business in 1984, with him later purchasing the business over 10 years later. Along with Merete Outzen, Peter creates European camping brand, Camping Agenten and begin developing their own range of tents under the CampForever brand. After a few business aquisations and new product development, Camping Agenten become Kamp's sales agent for Scandinavia - and here is where the relationship between the two families grew. Anders Outzen joined the family business in 2018 and shortly afterwards they become agents for Benimar motorhomes, introducing the fleet to the Danish market. Benimar Motorhomes soon become the biggest selling motorhome brand in Demark!
