At Yorkshire Caravans & Motorhomes, we’re committed to making your motorhome handover a seamless and enjoyable process.
Our knowledgeable team will take you through every detail of your new motorhome, ensuring you understand how everything works, from key functions to essential maintenance. We’ll make sure you feel confident and ready to hit the road, so you can set off on your adventures with total peace of mind.
What is a Motorhome Handover & why is it important?
At Yorkshire Caravans & Motorhomes, every motorhome sale includes a dedicated motorhome handover session, where one of our experts walks you through both the exterior and interior of their new motorhome. This ensures that our customers are fully familiar with their new vehicle before hitting the road. Our motorhome handover includes demonstrating how key systems such as electrics, water, heating, and appliances work, as well as explaining essential maintenance and safety checks.
A thorough handover not only helps our customers feel confident and comfortable with their new purchase but also reduces the risk of issues arising from misuse or misunderstanding. By taking the time to go over all the important details, Yorkshire Caravans & Motorhomes ensures that every customer drives away fully prepared for their first adventure.
On Completion of your Sale
Once we've finalised the sale of your new motorhome, we will arrange a date with you, for you to drop of your part exchange (if applicable) to allow us to check it over.
Before Motorhome Handover
To ensure a seamless motorhome handover, please review the following requirements:

Final Payments: All outstanding balances must be cleared at least one working day before your handover to avoid any delays.

Finance Customers: If you are purchasing your motorhome via finance, all documentation must be completed before collection. Please remember to bring your driving licence.

Motorhome Insurance: Please arrange your motorhome insurance prior to collection, we will need to see proof of this on the day of collection. We can provide competitive, no-obligation quotes through Caravan Guard if required.
- Leisure Battery: Please ensure you have an adequate battery to power your vehicle, which we advise you purchase at the time of sale, so it can be fitted free of charge by our PDI team.

Number Plate Requirements: Upon registration of your new motorhome you will be assigned a new numberplate by the DVLA. Please let us know if you wish to attach a private numberplate to the new vehicle, as we will need your retention certificate and time to produce and attach these. If you wish to attach a private registration plate to a pre-owned vehicle, we ask that you complete this process, once you have taken ownership of the vehicle.
- Licence Requirements: Please ensure your driving licence meets the requirements for the vehicle you are buying. For vehicles with a MAM over 3500kg and when you passed your driving test, you may need the C1 additional driving category.
- V5 Certificates: If you are part exchanging a vehicle with us, please ensure you bring all appropriate vehicle documentation, including the V5 certificate. Once the handover of your new motorhome has taken place, we will submit the paperwork and you should recieve your new V5 certificate through the post. For pre-owned motorhomes, we will fill out the relevant section of the vehicle's exisiting certificate and send it off to the DVLA, you should receive your replacement within a week, directly from the DVLA.
- Current Vehicle: We ask that all part exchanges vehicles come to us in the same condition as which they were valued and all equipment is handed over, including all sets of keys, wheel locking nuts, service manuals and documentation. Please ensure all additional equipment that was included at the time of valuation is left in the vehicle, such as carpets, awnings etc.

We’ll explain how to use the fresh water and waste systems, including filling and emptying water tanks and handling the toilet cassette for easy maintenance.
Security is a priority, so we’ll introduce you to your motorhome’s alarm and security features, helping you protect your investment while on the road or parked up.
Finally, we’ll show you how to make the most of your external storage compartments, ensuring you can efficiently organise and access your gear. This comprehensive exterior handover gives you everything you need to hit the road with confidence and enjoy your motorhome to the fullest.

Interior Tour
During your motorhome handover at Yorkshire Caravans & Motorhomes, we’ll take you through a full and comprehensive interior walkthrough to ensure you're confident in using every aspect of your new vehicle. Our team will guide you step by step through the habitation area, demonstrating how everything works so that you're ready to hit the road with ease.
We’ll start by showing you how to operate the kitchen appliances, including the hob, oven, grill, and fridge, ensuring you know how to switch between power sources where applicable. Moving on to the heating and lighting controls, we'll demonstrate how to adjust the temperature for maximum comfort and how to operate the various interior lights. We’ll also go over the different lounge and bed configurations, helping you understand how to set up seating and sleeping areas for the best use of space.
If your motorhome is equipped with TV points, WiFi, or a built-in radio system, we’ll walk you through how to connect and operate these features. Storage is another key part of the handover, and we’ll highlight clever storage solutions so you can make the most of your available space. The toilet and water systems will also be covered, including how to fill, empty, and maintain them properly. For models with additional built-in appliances like air conditioning, we’ll show you how to use and maintain them effectively.

We want to ensure you feel completely at ease behind the wheel of your new motorhome. That’s why, as part of your handover, we provide a thorough practical demonstration, covering everything you need to know about driving and handling your vehicle.
We’ll start by walking you through the driver’s controls, including the dashboard layout, indicators, lights, windscreen wipers, and any additional features specific to your motorhome model. You’ll also be shown how to adjust the mirrors for optimal visibility and how to use the reversing camera or parking sensors if fitted. Understanding how your motorhome handles on the road is essential, so we’ll explain the different driving modes, cruise control (if available), and how to navigate narrow roads or tight spaces with confidence.
If required, we can take you on a test drive, to ensure you feel comfortable with acceleration, braking, and maneuvering.
We’ll also go over key practical elements such as refueling, tyre pressures, and where to find essential tools. If your motorhome has additional driving features like an electronic handbrake, lane assist, or automatic gearbox settings, we’ll ensure you know how to use them properly.
