Our Caravan Handover Guide
Firstly, Congratulations on the purchase of your new caravan!
At Yorkshire Caravans & Motorhomes, we want to make your caravan handover a smooth and enjoyable experience.
Our dedicated handover specialists will guide you through every aspect of your new caravan, ensuring you're fully comfortable before you set off on your adventures.
What is a Caravan Handover & why is it important?
A caravan handover is the process of thoroughly demonstrating and explaining a caravan’s features, functions, and essential maintenance to its new owner. Whether you are new to caravanning or an experienced enthusiast, a proper handover ensures you understand how to safely and efficiently use your caravan, from setting up utilities to operating appliances and security features.
For newcomers, it provides confidence in towing, leveling, and general operation, helping to avoid common pitfalls. Even seasoned caravanners benefit, as modern caravans come with advanced technology and new features that may differ from previous models.
A comprehensive handover enhances safety, prevents potential issues, and ensures you get the most out of your caravan from day one.
On Completion of your Sale
Once we've finalised the sale of your new caravan, we will arrange a date with you, for you to drop of your part exchange (if applicable) to allow us to check it over.

Before Caravan Handover
To ensure a seamless caravan handover, please review the following requirements:
-
Final Payments: All outstanding balances must be cleared at least one working day before your handover to avoid any delays.
-
Finance Customers: If you are purchasing your caravan via finance, all documentation must be completed before collection. Please remember to bring your driving licence.
-
Caravan Insurance: Please arrange your caravan insurance prior to collection. We can provide competitive, no-obligation quotes through Caravan Guard if required.
-
Towball Preparation: Ensure your towball is free of paint, rust, and grease. AL-KO hitches require a compatible towball.
-
Electrical Connections: Your vehicle must have either a 13-pin plug or two 7-pin plugs. If not, conversion adapters are available from our Leisure Shop.
-
Leisure Battery: We recommend purchasing a suitable leisure battery at the time of sale, for free installation by our PDI team.
-
LED Light Compatibility: If your caravan has LED road lights, certain tow vehicles may require a load compensator box. We can test your vehicle’s compatibility and install a compensator box if necessary. Please check with your sales contact in advance of you caravan handover.
-
Number Plate Requirements: You must bring your V5 registration document to receive a legal number plate, which we will supply and fit free of charge to your caravan.
